Inbox Sweep — Privacy Policy

Inbox Sweep reads your Gmail message list on your own device in order to sort it, and never transmits, sells or shares any of it. It has no server, no account system and no analytics. Nothing it reads ever leaves your computer.

What the extension reads

When you press the Sweep button, and only then, the extension reads what is already displayed in your Gmail message list: the sender name and email address, the subject line, the date, the preview snippet Gmail shows, whether the conversation is unread, and how many messages it contains.

It does not open your messages, and it does not read message bodies beyond the preview text Gmail itself displays in the list.

What it does with what it reads

That information is sorted into four groups — needs action, waiting on reply, worth reading, and hidden — using two things that both run on your own machine:

• Pattern rules built into the extension.
• Chrome's built-in AI model (Gemini Nano), which Chrome downloads to your computer and runs locally. No prompt or result is sent to Google, to us, or to anyone else.

The result is shown in a panel and discarded when you close it or reload the page. Your mail is never marked, moved, archived, deleted, drafted or replied to.

What this means for the Chrome Web Store disclosure

The Chrome Web Store requires extensions to declare how they handle user data even when everything happens locally and nothing is transmitted. Inbox Sweep therefore declares that it handles personally identifiable information (the names and email addresses of your senders) and personal communications (subject lines and the preview text Gmail shows). "Handles" here means reads on your device in order to sort your inbox. It does not mean transmitted, stored off your device, sold or shared, none of which happens.

What is stored, and where

Two small pieces of information are saved in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on this computer only. They are not synced to your Google account and not sent anywhere:

• Your hidden and trusted sender list — the email domains or addresses you chose to always hide or never hide.
• Your settings — your theme choice, and a flag recording whether the extension has paused itself because Gmail's layout changed.

No message content, subject line or sender of any individual email is ever stored. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it.

What it does not do

• No network requests of any kind. The extension code contains no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, WebSocket or sendBeacon call.
• No server, no database, no account, no login.
• No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising or tracking.
• No sale or sharing of data with third parties, because no data is collected.
• No use of your data to train any model.
• No access to any site other than https://mail.google.com.

Permissions, and why each one exists

• https://mail.google.com/* — to display the panel and read the message list on screen. This is the only site the extension can access.
• storage — to remember your hidden sender list and settings on this computer.
• scripting — required by InboxSDK, the library used to read Gmail's message rows in a supported way, so the extension keeps working when Gmail's layout changes.

Third parties

The extension bundles InboxSDK, a library by Streak used to read Gmail's interface. It is included in the extension package and runs locally. It is not used to send data anywhere.

Chrome's built-in AI model is provided and downloaded by Google Chrome itself. It runs on your device.

Children

Inbox Sweep is a productivity tool for adults and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the extension changes what it reads or stores, this page will be updated before that version is published, and the date at the top will change.
